LEXICAL AND SYNTACTIC-SEMANTIC ANALYSIS OF BLESSINGS IN THE MASQUERADE CEREMONY

Summary/Abstract: Language, as a socially-conditioned phenomenon, contributes to the preservation of cultural identity of traditional communities. Analysis of the masquerade ceremony čarojice through the prism of similar ceremonies in the Indo-European regions confirmed that in many cultures the same or similar procedures often repeat as the remnants of the Slavic heritage, and that the differences are caused by the cultural context of the local community. In their historical development, Serbian traditional customs have been gradually dying out, specially if they are not closely connected with the Christian eachings.
