Summary/Abstract: Preparation for self‑government is effected in the process of socialization, understood in the context of an individual’s development, in the mental and social aspect. Based on the acquired values and standards as well as experiences, an individual creates a picture of the surrounding reality. The development of personal traits at subsequent rungs of one’s mental development pushes an individual to undertake activity which involves active participation in social situations and, with time, their creative transformation based on the acquired knowledge. An individual systematically enters the ever‑growing circle of social interactions on the level of formal and informal groups, undertakes individual and collective activity as well as learns to adopt and play social roles. Owing to the process of continuous upbringing, the individual acquires competences to take responsibility for various activities and gets prepared for self‑government, manifesting itself in the achievement of social autonomy.
