Summary/Abstract: Changing environment forces the implementation of changes in the organizations. It seems to be necessary to invest in new technologies that lead to the development of the knowledge society. The changes also affected the higher education system. Because of the demographic turbulence, the proquality changes were initiated. One can observe a gradual increase of social expectations. Noticeable is the increase in awareness of their own goals and needs among stakeholders. The last two decades is a period of extremely turbulent transformation in Polish higher education system. Currently, it is expected that universities will significantly contribute to the development, for instance by creating a knowledge-based economy. This requires a much greater involvement of universities in economic development. For universities the main inspiration for action is to search how to stand out among many similar institutions. Becase of the number of programs offered by the universities there are growing in importance accreditation systems. The potential of changes should be used for innovation in the teaching process. The intellectual capital and the efficient management are the main advantages of the universities and their primary differentiatior.
