The phenomenon of death from overwork

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyze the phenomenon of death from overwork. Main problems in contemporary work such as workaholism, burnout syndrome, extreme work and finally the most extreme of them, that is death from overwork, were presented. The analyzes of available quantitative data were also conducted, which due to the nature of the phenomenon come mainly from Japan, China and South Korea. Several cases of death from overwork in Japan are briefly described and Polish cases that could be classified in this category have been outlined. The state of academic research on the phenomenon was also analyzed (bibliometric analysis based on Scopus data) and it turned out that the research topic is niche, with little number of research, mainly in the field of medical science. Japanese research dominates.
