- Keywords:helix organisation; helix structure; triple helix; innovation
- Summary/Abstract:The aim of the chapter is to identify and analyse key issues related to the definition and functioning of the helix organizations and the helix structures. The helix organizations integrate activities of universities, businesses and government in the innovation process. In turn, the helix structures are configurations of relations between managers responsible for the development of the organization’s potential and managers responsible for day-to-day operations. The connecting element between organizations and structures is the helix metaphor, which implies close and symbiotic relations between the integrated helixes (spheres). The chapter discusses features that distinguish the helix organizations and the helix structures from other organizational solutions, their advantages and disadvantages, and the factors that influence the successes and failures in their functioning. The final part presents a summary of the considerations and indicates topics for further research in this area.

- Summary/Abstract:In the theoretical aspect, Corporate Social Responsibility remains a set of independent and often competing ideas and concepts. By following the sources of interest in the concept of CSR, as well as by examining its development in chronological terms – including the way of understanding, the practice of application, and the methods of implementation in organizations – the evolutionary nature of developing the concept of corporate social responsibility can be observed by focusing on four main approaches: normative, constructive, strategic and holistic. As a part of retrospective research in the literature within the subject, the above approaches distinguish their characteristics and milestones in the development of the key concepts of corporate social responsibility.

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of the article is to analyze the trends in the contemporary world scientific achievements in the field of corporate social responsibility from the perspective of model approaches. The main research question was formulated as follows: what are the trends in contemporary global research on corporate social responsibility from the perspective of model approaches? After the presentation of theoretical approaches such as the Eells’s, Schlusberg’s, Walton’s model, Carroll’s model and its various modifications, or Porter and Kramer’s model, the main thematic areas of research in corporate social responsibility were identified. Seven such areas have been identified: economic, legal, ethical, philanthropic responsibility, strategic dimension as well as orientation to shareholders and stakeholders. Data was taken from the Scopus database, cleaned and analyzed. The dataset consisted of 5,394 records relating to scientific articles from 2010 – 2019 listed in the Scopus database and related to corporate social responsibility. It turned out that the general trend in the dataset was increasing over time. Growth trends can also be seen in particular subject areas. The largest amount of research is on economic responsibility as well as the strategic dimension and stakeholder orientation. The least, however, are those relating to philanthropic responsibility, orientation towards shareholders and legal responsibility. A citation analysis was also performed. It turned out that in the entire dataset, articles with low citation indexes are the most numerous. Frequently cited articles account for a small percentage. A similar tendency was observed in the analyzed areas of responsibility. The issues of Polish contribution to the global academic discussion on corporate social responsibility were also discussed. It turned out that it cannot be considered satisfactory either in terms of the number of articles or in the context of citation indexes.

- Summary/Abstract:This chapter presents the method of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) from two perspectives: a theoretical and a practical one. In the first part of the chapter basic concepts of LCA are presented and explained with the aid of: information which is included in the ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards; and the existing literature on LCA. Apart from defining what LCA is, the first part of the chapter also presents the chronology on how LCA changed and evolved over the years. The second part of the chapter presents information from an LCA study report which was carried out by a UK-based WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) charity, which examined six packaging systems (designed for pasteurized milk) in 2010. This means that every theoretical part presented in the first part has a corresponding example in the practical part of the chapter. The main objective of this chapter was to present the usefulness of LCA and to make it as clear as possible, especially for those who are new to this methodology.

- Summary/Abstract:A managerial performance can be designed on the basis of the objectives of the conducted activity with a key customer in mind, assessed and improved. A proven method of the managerial work designing is organizational design. This chapter describes the mechanism of building its main components: the four levers of organizational design and the four areas of activity of managers relating thereto. The attention has been paid to the necessity of the X-test principle according to the managerial performance can be checked. As a research method, a case study of IBM’s top managers’ organizational design of market departments over the last century was used. It was emphasized that in order to get the managerial performance to work, the organizational design can basically be rebuilt and start „all over again”. In the context of dynamic changes on the market, when remote work is becoming more formal, the current challenges of managers and trends in the organizational structure were taken into account.
