THE PLACE AND SIGNIFICANCE OF MUNICIPALS IN ART TRAINING ( VOCATIONAL TRAINING COURSES IN CENTRAL DISTRICTS OF KONYA)

Summary/Abstract: Nowadays, it has become an unavoidable fact that a society should meet the needs of its individuals and keep up with the continuously changing and developing world. Considering the training system for adult individuals in Turkey in this context, widespread training projects out of organized education are being developed by many establishments. This application is generally administered to individuals as “short-period training” out of schools. The objective of this study is to underline the significance of vocational training courses administered by local authorities, existing among artistic activities for adults and to put forward suggestions for this aim. In developed western countries, education for adults is mostly administered by local authorities. In Turkey, however, municipals and private organizations are also organizing courses, as well as the Ministry of National Education. In this study, art courses organized in vocational training courses by local authirities (municipals) were investigated in terms of their contributions to the arts and training of arts. For the study, activities of KOMEK, MERMEK, KARMEK and SELMEK (organizations of vocational training courses in the central districts of the municipalities of Konya, Meram, Karatay, Selçuklu in the Province of Konya) were investigated. Art courses were observed in these organizations, and trainers and trainees from these organizations were interviewed. Developments were determined as a result of observations performed with one-month intervals for 3 months. With the help of the interview with the course managers and trainers, the targets and the results reached were studied to be determine. In this study, the organizations trying to meet the needs of its society were investigated in terms of how they provided a development in the art training of the society.
