Summary/Abstract: In philosophical and sociological literature, social values are defined as representing a collective set of convictions about what is good or bad, right or wrong etc. in a certain culture. One of the analyses that have become classics on social values has been undertaken by the Polish-American psycho-sociologist Milton Rokeach, who operated the distinction between instrumental values and terminal values. The American sociologist Robin Williams argued that there are ten common values of the majority of Americans. Furthermore, we tried to see if these ten fundamental American values are also found in Romanian public space, respectively which of those values resonates with Romanian mentality and which not.
