APPRAISAL OF RECORDS BASED ON STANDARD ISO 15489-1: 2016

Summary/Abstract: Along with acquisition, arrangement and description, preservation and access appraisal is considered a core archival function. Since this task affects all other archival procedures, archivists need to know exactly the appraisal process. New edition of ISO 15489-1: 2016 - Record Management - Part 1: Concepts and principles that define concepts and principles that form the basis for creating, capturing and managing records, already emphasizes the importance of appraisal. Due to the great importance of appraisal ISO TC/46/SC11/WG 15 has already begun to prepare a new technical standard, or a technical specification, Appraisal for Managing Records, with which it wishes to extend the elements of an effective assessment of records. In the paper, the author will first present some basic appraisal theories and the ISO 15489 standard and its implementation in Slovenian archival theory and practice. Than the new edition of ISO 15489-1: 2016 - Record Management - Part 1: Concepts and Principles and its provisions relating to appraisal will be presented, as well as new technical specification under the preparation.
