Summary/Abstract: The paper studies the language of fear quotes in common people’s passageson the internet site www.searchquotes.com/search/Fear. The paper investigates which fear metaphors listed in Kövecses (1990, 2000) are instantiated in the corpusand finds that the container metaphor, which seems to be central according toKövecses, is much less represented than expected, while there is a wide range ofversions of the object metaphor in the corpus, which is not identified in his works.
