Forms and Determinants of Coopetition in Tourist Destinations

Summary/Abstract: Coopetition – cooperation of competitors – is a problem relatively rarely addressed in Polish literature regarding tourist destinations. The aim of the study is to identify forms of coopetition and determinants of their occurrence and development in tourist destinations. The paper presents the results of research conducted using the case study method in the form of semi-structured interviews with 48 entities associated in the “Wisła Tourist Organization.” The interlocutors were asked about relations with direct competitors from Wisła municipality. Six different forms of coopetition and seven groups of determinants were identified. It was pointed out that coopetition of even the biggest competitors is possible in tourist destinations, but its necessary condition is an open attitude towards cooperation with competitors presented by tourist enterprises’ managers.
