Keywords: medieval prayers against Nezhit; the Slavic literature

Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on widespread medieval prayers against Nezhit. The first discussion is on some of the contemporary treatments of the topic. The ideas about the magic formula penetration from the folklore into the Slavic literature is argued and there is a certain point of view concerning debates about the nature of the disease as well as the fact that very often the mention of the prayer in different indices is disregarded. On a second place the term “apocryphal literature” is argued and the more correct term “noncanonical literature” is proposed. The article focuses on the questions about comparison between nezhit prayer and Sisinnius's prayer and the possible connection between this formula and Bogomil movement as well. In this case the question what was the Medieval attitude about the noncanonical prayers against diseases is of the major importance. Finally, it should be noted that the issues raised are expected to remain open and the author hopes to incite research interest in the scientific community.
