Summary/Abstract: The use of certain drugs, as well as alcohol consumption may decrease the psycho-physical effectiveness of drivers, contributing to an increased risk of an accident. There are several classes of drugs that may be the cause of such adverse reactions, among which the most important are anxiolytics, opioid analgesics and antihistamines. They can cause sedation, tiredness and sleepiness, which consequently lead to a reduction in mental and physical ability of the drivers. This paper discusses the issue of medicines and their potential impact on the safety of traffic.
