Summary/Abstract: The family business and the development of a community are understood through the improvement of the level and living conditions of its inhabitants, considering the growth of physical, social, human capital in a harmonious way as well as the economic development of the locality, having as axis to the productive organizations that operate as an economic entity. The objective of the study was to analyze the characteristics of family organizations in the Las Arenitas rural community and their contribution to local development. The research was mixed, collecting data with observation, interviews and survey. The results reveal that in the community there are formal and informal family organizations, made up of family members who live in the community; the formal ones are micro-enterprises and fishing cooperatives that capture marine species with government permits as well as freezers that are responsible for marketing them; while the informal ones are dedicated to the commercialization of diverse products for the needs of the inhabitants of the community. Concluding that formal family businesses offer sources of employment to a greater number of inhabitants of the community and with this income for families, however it is recognized that they need to be professionalized to raise their impact on the development of their community.
