Summary/Abstract: The family microenterprise is characterized by having an informal organizational structure, where family members participate actively; decision making is concentrated in the owner’s hands, decisions are given quickly, however, these are mixed with the family. Cash management is a key to the survival of these companies since there must be a balance between the inflows and outflows of money. The cash flow represents an indicator of the financial strength of the company. The objective of the study was to analyze the decision-making process in the cash management of the family microenterprise, applying semi-structured interviews with managers of three commercial family microbusinesses. The findings indicate that the owners are the decision-makers in an empirical, informal, emergent manner, with limited participation of the family, in order to remain in the market. They resist the use of support tools for cash management, generating lack of control in business operations, concluding that it is necessary to professionalize microentrepreneurs, so that they have skills that facilitate their decisions and take advantage of the financial resources available for their permanence.
