Summary/Abstract: Recently, the study of family small and micro enterprises (FSMES) in Mexico has become relevant, due to the importance they have in the economic development of the country, and the unfinished search for strategies that allow their strengthening, continuity and competitiveness. The aim of this work is to identify the principal difficulties of the FSMES on the artisanal sector in Guanajuato city, which could allow to understand the worldview that guides its operation and give information to the strengthening and market maintained of this important sector. Is a qualitative research with descriptive scope and non-experimental design. A semi structured interview was used in sixteen FSMES, also participant observation through a field log was used. The selection of the study population was incidental. The results show that the main difficulties of this kind of enterprises are: a) lack of professionalism and not interest in becoming professional, b) limited financial resources and assets, c) lack of knowledge and distrust of alternative funding sources, d) unfair competition, e) lack of planning and long-term vision, and f ) in young generations, disinterest in the profession. The research conclusions are oriented towards reflecting on the generational gaps between master craftsmen and young, which allows business continuity.
