Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to demonstrate the relationship that exists between the European Commission’s granting of a Russian company Gazprom which manages OPAL pipeline and economic security of Poland and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe. In addition, it should be pointed out that the dependence of these countries on supply of energy resources essentially from one direction (ie from Russia) potentially undermines more than their energy security. Given the fact that the presentday nature of the energy supply system is an important component of economic competitiveness, the consolidation of the monopoly position of the dominant supplier of energy raw materials poses particular risks also in this respect. Apart from the presentation of certain threats related to this decision of the European Commission, the article discusses actions taken at the legal and judicial level, inter alia by the Polish government and the national energy concern, to provide Poland and other countries of the region with energy security.
