Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this paper is identifying and appreciating soft competences of management students, which seem to be key for their careers and professional achievements in the future. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem consists in answering the question, if the Polish educational system develops the competences of young generation desirable in the economy of XXI c. The results of quantitative research comprising 260 students will help to answer the question. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The best time for developing the soft competences falls on the primary and secondary education. Later it is less effective. Passion as a special form of the competences is a drive of entrepreneurial behaviours. To develop it, there must be a balance between school responsibilities and the time for other activities meeting emotional and social needs of the young. RESEARCH RESULTS: The Polish educational system doesn’t support developing soft competences of the young by the XXI c. economy standards. The students coming from entrepreneurial families have soft competences better developed than their counterparts. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The educational system needs urgent changes reducing its verbal and cognitive contents on behalf of developing the soft competences and practical skills.
