Summary/Abstract: The aims of the paper is to present the surveillance files of the romanian archaeologist, Neculai Zaharia, actions made by the Securitatea (the secret police) and carried out between February 1976 and June 1978, according to the documents kept in the archives. The Securitate's surveillance action was started with the interception of a letter and it reveals a well-oiled mechanism for obtain the necessary information. But the same time, the answer of the Secret Service against Neculai Zaharia highlights the perfecting of the terror mechanisms and development of the so-called “the action of compromise”. The informative/surveillence note made by people who collaborated with the secret police offer us today information about the academic environment and relation between intellectuals, about that time was perceived by the simple citizens, useful information for the future studies about life in Romania during communist era.
