Summary/Abstract: In his study, the author aims at presenting the ideas of Samuil Micu concerning philosophy, mainly one of its branches named by him practical philosophy, or otherwise known as Ethics. To this end, the author highlights Micu’s inclination towards philosophy (with a special interest for practical philosophy, consisting of „general practical philosophy, nature’s right, ethics, politics”), which he thought should be accepted as a necessary and useful thing for the human being. Thus, contrary to those who considered that philosophy („metaphysics”) was not useful to the young people, because it rather meant confusing than clearing their mind with its „many and twisted” questions, Micu has the strong conviction that philosophy is useful to them, as it eases the exercise of thinking, by datiefying the mind, while offering a pleasant way to live and also shaping them as men and women of character and with moral virtues. As a final conclusion, the author states that Samuil Micu remains in the Romanian philosophy as one of its pioneers, both by the ideas he advanced, and by the philosophical language he created, as a means to make these very ideas known to those who needed them in his time and after
