Summary/Abstract: Man is the subject of culture and religion. Culture is everything that man creates both in the material and spiritual realm. Although man creates culture, culture also shapes man through the (religious) patterns and values it transmits. Religion is expressed in culture, but religion also transcends culture because the object of religion is transcendent. Therefore, religion has a role in forming culture. Different models on the relationship between culture and religion exist, including: opposition and confrontation as well as complementarity and cooperation. The best model of culture and religion is one of creative cooperation.
