Summary/Abstract: Undertaken researches indicate that in Prehistory, starting with the Upper Paleolithic, within the cultures specific to each geographic area, various methods of obtaining woven fabrics were invented. Their diversity was determined both by the natural environmental conditions and by the area of dissemination of the various types of raw material specific to each geographic area. The principle of weaving, from the first woven fabric to our times, remained the same. In time, looms were subject to changes, meant to improve them, the most important modifications being related to the modalities of tensing the warp threads and of creating the shed. In this regard, the paper presents selectively constructive solutions for such problems, exemplified according to the types of looms used in prehistory. Also, archaeological indications are provided, as indicated in the specialized literature, sustaining aspects of the evolution of the weaving devices (painted images on the walls of crypts, on various pots, funeral models, recreations achieved by the correlation of the archaeological finds to the ethnographic information concerning the construction of contemporary looms).
