Summary/Abstract: Textiles, due to their universality, are an important reference in studying the evolution of the various civilizations. The interdisciplinary research carried out on archaeological items showed the existence, already in the Upper Palaeolithic, of textile technologies, adding new details to an exciting picture – the one of the evolution of the prehistoric civilizations. The paper is a presentation of the main archaeological evidence pointed out in the specialized literature, evidence which demonstrates the usage, during the Upper Palaeolithic and Neolithic, of the textile raw materials and of the technologies necessary for their processing. The twisting and plaiting of the fibre materials are also referred to, together with the evolution of the spinning of textile fibres, at the same time following the evolution of the tools specific to this technology.
