Summary/Abstract: Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI referring to the conciliar Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, emphasizes these norms of the Constitution, which determine the celebration criterion. Hence, the basic norm suiting the proper reading of the liturgy is the correct understanding of who is its subject. The liturgy is first of all, the work of Jesus Christ and His Mystical Body – the Church. All this is done in accordance with the so-called hermeneutics of continuity, which is one of the key concepts of the theological thoughts of Joseph Ratzinger/ Benedict XVI also with regard to the liturgy. As a remedy to the so-called “hermeneutic of rupture” the Bavarian theologian recommends turning to the text of the conciliar Constitution. Its reading should also take into account the negative experiences related to trivializing the principles of the conciliar reform. To restore the sacrum’s inner intention to the liturgy, all attempts of willful constructing must disappear from it. According to Ratzinger, when the sacrum returns to the liturgy, the renewal of the Church will take place, the reform of the reform, which is showing once again the relation with the entire history of the Church.
