Summary/Abstract: The article puts emphasis on the following aspects related to the development of the Bulgarian Language and Literature programme at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The first part of the article gives an insight into the period before the opening of the programme (1973) – and it is also about Ukrainian lecturers teaching Bulgarian at the Department of Slavic Languages at the university. The second part of the article generalizes the work of the Bulgarian lecturers sent by the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria in order to support the development of the programme. Another part of the article is about an educational course in Bulgarian literature for BA and MA students who study Bulgarian. Training programmes, courses and other forms of education in Bulgaria are available for students and assisted by the Bulgarian institutions not only in order to meet high scientific and educational criteria, but also in order to improve the public image of Bulgarian Studies at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
