Summary/Abstract: When we set out today to analyze the character of a narrative, we have to consider certain methodological precautions. Even if the character is a category that could be seen as unhistorical, the modalities used in the construction of the character, as well as the way the critics apprehend this notion, differ greatly. To render the particularities and the relevance of the character for the francophone writer Ahmadou Kourouma, we borrowed concepts originating from a multiplicity of theoretical horizons, principally semiotics (Greimas, Hamon), pragmatics (Maingueneau) and sociocritics (Bourdieu), that we combined with some anthropological categories, such as alterity.
