Summary/Abstract: The paper presents main hydropower development trends on the Bóbr River between the 13th and the 20th century. Particular focus is placed on the significance of hydropower in the process of advancement of civilisation in the area in question, starting from the mechanisation of production in medieval workshops down to the electrification of industry, agriculture, and towns thanks to power plants established on the basis of old mills. This evolution is traced with the use of archival sources, local chronicles, and secondary sources. They serve as the source of information on the social conditions and economic factors which influenced the evolution of individual mills into modern power plants on the Bóbr River.
