Summary/Abstract: The article presents the history of the Lower Silesia power company in the years 1945–1989. In the realities of a centrally planned economy, investments in power generation made in this area were a reflection of the energy policy of the state. The main principle was the centralisation of power generation in great thermal power plants and the expansion of a system of high voltage energy lines connecting the whole country in one great nationwide grid. In the 1960s the general trend in state power generation was a diversification of the sources of energy in the direction of brown coal and the development of power generation in the shape of electrical power and heating plants. In Lower Silesia, the period under discussion saw the building of the large power plant in Turów and many thermal power plants of significant capacity.
