Some traditional Food Recipies from Mărginimea Sibiului

Summary/Abstract: Nowadays food habits in Mărginimea Sibiului do not differ much from those in the 19th and the 20th centuries, as the habitants use the same ingredients and sources of supplies.Their main activities, pastoral life and trade offered the opportunity of getting the necessary suplies they didn’t find at home. They prefer a healthy home-made food, taking into account the calender and obeying the fasting. This provide them with fresh food: daily products, vegetables, fruit, for their not very sophisticated menues. They are are also open to other recipies, especially sweets, taken both from cooking books or broughthome by the girls who were studying in Sibiu. Although they are open to new, they d’ont forget their traditional food recipies. We present two example of such recipes: „leveş”- specific to Rod, made for Epiphany, and „scoverzi”- very popular in all the villages.
