Summary/Abstract: We followed the evolution of the Rachitan family from Gales, because it offers a complex picture of all the demographic phenomena in the village: many children in the generation from the beginning of the 20th century, then fewer; the education in higher and higher school, with a view to professions with a good future; a preference for intellectual category; settlement in the neighbouring cities or in the places with chances of success, on the ways used by the shepherds in their moving the flocks; “looking for the luck in America”; the keeping up with the relatives and with their home; the activity of those who remained or returned to their native village in the community interest... Thus, the history of a family becomes important because it offers a clear example of the phenomena in the village in its permanent evolution.
