Summary/Abstract: The authors emphasize that differences still exist between dialects in western and eastern parts of the Czech Republic. These differences partly affect the contemporary colloquial form of Czech, especially in urban speech; therefore it is necessary to record it in the dictionaries and grammars now, more than before. The authors implemented a questionnaire survey and tested the mutual knowledge of different expressions among speakers in both parts of the Czech Republic, i.e. in Bohemia, on one side, and in Moravia and Moravian Silesia, on the other. In the lexical and phraseological field, the main differences involve phenomena of everyday life and are part of private, intimate communication.
