Summary/Abstract: Learning a foreign language is a long-term, complex, and dynamic process that involves different types of language skills and various stages of development. Second language acquisition (SLA) is a multidisciplinary field whose goal is to understand the processes that underlie the learning of a non-native language. SLA draws from a variety of scholarly areas, among them the various branches of linguistics, cognitive psychology, and education. The paper offers new insights into the acquisition of English as a foreign language. It presents a discussion of how the field conceptualises grammar through a multidisciplinary model for acquiring the English present progressive construction.
