Summary/Abstract: Substitution is one of the cohesive devices in text. It is a lexicogrammatical relation and the different types are defined grammatically. This paper aims at analyzing the text-forming role of the verbal substitute „do”, functioning as a sort of „counter”, contributing to the semantic structure of text without disturbing its informational organization. The verbal substitute is typically used when the speaker/writer wants to contrast two verbal groups.
