Summary/Abstract: “Grandeur and Decline of Parkinson's Disease” is an allegorical novel, which polyphonic structure reveals the gifts Svetislav Basara was endowed with: his talent, his know-how and his maturity when it comes to composition: fragmentation, brilliant essayist style, incredible quick-witted imagination, and, last but not least, an admirable sense of black humor, absurdity and grotesque. Should we find - among the postmodernist Serbian writers - an author who managed to demolish the linearity of speech, it would be Svetislav Basara that could claim a place of honor in this respect as his prose balances between Danilo Kis’ biographism and documentarism on the one hand, and Milorad Pavic’s onirism and deconstructivism on the other hand.
