Summary/Abstract: The first part of the research carried out by Lucian Alexiu among Banat writers features a series of responses from various culturally-involved personalities: Olimpia Berca, Florin Didilescu, Eugen Dorcescu, Margareta Gyurcsik talk about their involvement with French culture. The experiences described are quite varied, ranging from the French knowledge acquired by means of public and private lessons and subsequently become a profession, to the organisation of festivals of Frech theatre, the impact of French culture upon the younger generations, as well as various reading and translation confrontations with French authors. Four more authors add their own standpoints as to the French cultural heritage in the Banat region: Iacob Roman, Eugen Tanase, Maria Tenchea and Ciprian Valcan are reputed specialists in the field who give various accounts of personal cultural exchanges. Their careers in the study of French language and literature constitute a good example of proffesional interest in the values of a fascinating cultural space.
