Summary/Abstract: There are several unfounded criticisms directed against the Hungarian version of the Geneva Psalms by A. Szenci Molnár. A new versification of selected Geneva Psalms appeared in 2007. Its foreword is packed with erroneous statements concerning the biblical incorrectness and low literary value of A. Szenci Molnár’s Hungarian Psalter. Similarly, the claims that the new version is easier to sing because of its prosody, and that it retains today’s language whilst strictly following the Hebrew, are not true. Further, in the version used since 1948 nearly one third of Szenci’s lines are omitted, and the remaining verses are occasionally reshaped and distorted. Some of the deleted strophes should be reinserted and most of the modified lines restored.
