Summary/Abstract: The main idea of this article is that, like literary translation, specialized translation disseminates and promotes notions and ideas that influence and ultimately change the configuration of the target culture. The article explains how this happens: through denotations, but especially through connotations, peripheral ideas and feelings that a person, a group of persons, or a culture associates with certain words and modes of discourse. The article tries to capture how these connotations are transmitted through translation and how they affect the target culture in two particular instances connected to the translation of English instruction manuals into Romanian, namely noun clusters and disclaimers.
