Summary/Abstract: Consolidations in the higher education sector have been increasingly implemented in many countriesin the past two decades, most often taking the form of integration or federal fusions carried out bothbetween public and private universities. In the Polish higher education sector, operating in the conditionsof deepening demographic decline, there is a growing pressure on consolidation processes. The aim ofthe article is a comparative analysis of objectives, but also methods for conducting university mergers,taking into account the diversity between a group of public and private universities. The conclusionspoint to similarities and differences between the mergers of public and non-public universities in Poland.
