Public private supply balance in the social sphere

Summary/Abstract: The article presents some results from a study on the market and nonmarket alternatives in public financed services in Bulgaria in the last decade. The main trends in the supply structure (public - private) are outlined in three essential sectors: healthcare, education and social services. The authors present an overview and sectoral surveys of the supply-side by analyzing key indicators in four dimensions: the subjects that supply the corresponding services, their territorial network and accessibility, the type and quantity of the services offered and their results. That empirical data serves as a base for conclusions about the current situation and the advantages of the public and private supply.
