Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to outline the main priorities of the public policies for regional development in the Republic of Bulgaria and to provide guidelines for balanced development. Special emphasis is placed on the effect of spatial interaction between territories and the role of public policies to stimulate the positive effects of this interaction. Attention is drawn to the role of institutions at regional level that could support and coordinate the implementation of regional development policies and the achievement of territorial cohesion.
