Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the issue of public participation in land use planning. The Czech Republic has several problems associated with public participation in environmental decision-making. Especially in land use planning the public participation is often a mere formality and there is usually no real debate between the authorities and inhabitants of towns and villages. The authors of this article collected specific data from the authorities that show that the current way of public participation in land use planning is inadequate and that it is necessary to look for new solutions. One of the steps to improve the current situation could be an extension of modern participatory methods in land use planning.
