Summary/Abstract: Manipulation in the language of politics is as old as politics itself. In the second half of the twentieth century, many political and linguistic studies devoted to this issue were created. The most important Polish linguists dealing with this issue include: Jerzy Bralczyk, Michał Głowiński and Jerzy Bartmiński. The author of the article used the categories described by the above-mentioned linguists to describe ‘bad speech’ in Serbian journalism of the second half of the twentieth century and the beginning of the 2000s. According to the Serbian ethnologist Ivan Čolović, this manipulative language of politics in the public debate, which was realized in the form of a ‘national fairy tale’ led to a tragedy – the bloody fratricidal war in the former Yugoslavia.
