Summary/Abstract: Every important stylistic period also covers a significant space in terms of time that is closely connected with the development of music-performing way of thinking. Through research methods as well as through a number of set tasks leading to the basic goal of this research, we come to the topic of this paper related to the medieval practice of musica ficta significant for the emergence and development of the alteration and chromatics phenomenon through history along with the analysis of the examples of vocal and instrumental practice and theoretical discussions from that period. Musica ficta is an important practice that is considered as a medieval designation for chromatic tones. This practice would lead to the fixation of the so called „fictitious“ alterations that were going to be crucial for the development of the major-minor system.
