Summary/Abstract: The author develops the position that proficiency in a second foreign language is an "added value" in multilingual Europe today, especially for young people preparing for a career in European affairs. The EU Terminology programme as a part of the curriculum at the American University in Bulgaria aims to provide an adequate response to the requirements of effective second foreign language learning by English-speaking students, already familiarized with political, economic, legal and social European matters. The action-oriented approach adopted within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages appears to be particularly appropriate for acquiring this specialized vocabulary.
