Summary/Abstract: The earliest Ragusan lyric, developed in national language during thesecond half of 15th and the beginning of 16th century, was under a great influenceof normative rennaisance poetry and Italian poetry of Petrarchists. This lyric, however, showed numerous characteristics which separated it from its paragon.Despite the valid poetics of imitation, it strived towards the freedom of expressionand spontaneously endeavored to preserve its authenticity. These signs ofindependence were already recognized in the poetry of Ragusan humanists, inLatin language in 15th century. However, they were far more distinct in renaissancepoetry, in native language. This paper indicates the divergence of Ragusan poetsfrom contemporary, widely accepted valid principles and models in poetry. Itparticularly analyzes the influence of national poetry on early Ragusan lyric. Thisinfluence crucially influenced the poetic language, metrics and style of this poetryand gave the whole poetry of this period a characteristic tone of originality.
