Summary/Abstract: This is the first of a pair of papers in which I try to present a comprehensive analysis of the promises and the limits of a comparative approach of Bergson’s and Brouwer’s intuitionism. In this first paper, I will set the main principles and the hermeneutical framework of this approach. I consider the two intuitionisms as metaphysical (Bergson) and epistemological (Brouwer), without, however, eliminating the possibility of the existence of important features that overlaps the both. Further, I will put Brouwer’s philosophical view in connection to Lebensphilosophie and also to positivism, in what would have seemed at the outset a contradictory approach, and I will try to give an explanation for this paradoxical situation.
