The impact of the main causes of death on life potential of males and females in Bulgaria

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to investigate the impact of the main causes of death on life potential in Bulgaria for the period since 1965 until 1999. The results show that cardiovascular diseases have the greatest impact on life potential of both sexes and they are also the main reason for the gap in life potential between males and females in Bulgaria during the period concerned. This fact suggests that reduction in mortality from cardiovascular diseases is the major source of both increasing the life potential of population in Bulgaria and also narrowing the gap between both sexes.
