Summary/Abstract: Since St Augustine, time has come to the philosophical view like an inconceivable mystery. In most philosophical research about time, one cannot decide: Is cultural time just a scheme based on common agreement, or does it deal somehow with individual time experiences, when time is experienced as a continuous motion. This question often leads to mistrust of the possibility to tell the personal life as a story and to feel it at the same time like the own life. This problem starts to look different and ceases to be unsolvable in the philosophy of P. Ricoeur. He derives cultural time from the human ability to narrate, and, in his later works, he links both, the cultural time and the ability to narrate, with the comprehension of the self.
