Dual VET between Educational Offer and Choice of Study in Cluj County - the Perspective of Middle Schools

Summary/Abstract: The importance of introducing dual VET in Romania has been stressed by both private companies and technical schools in Romania. Its introduction in our country reflects both the efforts to counteract the scarcity of specialised workforce on the Romanian market as well as the effort to deliver well-prepared students, tuned to the ever-growing demands of today’s labour market. This article is the results of a qualitative research performed among 8th graders and their teachers with respect to the factors that determine the 8th graders’ choice for dual VET in Cluj county. The results indicate that, despite strong resistance to associations with any form of VET, the more the time spent on school counselling, the higher the enrolment rate in dual VET. Furthermore, the school setting (rural vs. urban) also plays a vital role in dual VET choices.
