Summary/Abstract: The better understanding of students’ learning progression through the acquisition of the content of different subjects, as well as the adaptation of educational goals to the empirically established patterns of this process, is one of the trends in the contemporary educational technologies, which is getting more and more widespread. Moreover, it has wide application at different educational stages, including the pre-school education. The study of the way children view the world, as well as the explanation they have for different phenomena, the discovery of the regularities of change of their ideas, is a prerequisite for the better fit of the educational goals to their children’s cognitive abilities and learning approach. The article presents the results of the exploratory study aimed at determining the extent to which the children from the different age groups of kindergarten cover the expected results in the fields of Mathematics (spatial relations) and „Bulgarian language“ (Grammar). This is the first step in realizing the age validation of the indicators of preschool educational standards. It demonstrates the possibility that the expected outcomes set out in the pre-school educational standard can be based on empirical data and thus can better orient the professionals to their age of acquisition.
