Summary/Abstract: Because is at the center of the supply chain, transportation is the foundation of any economy. In the absence of available transport network, the proper functioning of the internal market is not possible. The investments in transport infrastructure stimulates the economic growth, promotes trade, the geographical accessibility and the creation of jobs. In the context in which the global crisis was felt in all areas of the global economy, the trade developed through the major ports of the European Union has not remained unaffected. This study, which is based on a pertinent analysis of the crisis affecting trade made through the major European ports, seeks to identify the causes that prevent port development and propose Romania, a series of administrative measures to remove bottlenecks and encourage the development of activities from harbors.
